DELO wins “TOP100” category

Only creative businesses with visions and a sense of innovations have made it into the ranks of the 100 most innovative SMEs. In 2011, DELO Industrial Adhesives is one of them for the second time already. Pronounced innovation marketing ensured that the company ranked first in the category of the same name. In the Ostseebad Warnemünde, Germany, Mentor Lothar Späth handed over the “Top 100” seal of quality and the trophy for the category winner.

Although the products of the company from Windach, Germany, that employs 260 people are mostly invisible, they can be found in every second mobile phone and in eight of ten chip cards. DELO supplies tailor-made special adhesives for electronics, the chip card and automotive industry, as well as for glass and plastic design.

DELO's recipes of success include that they create an atmosphere in which communication takes place. In order to ensure that new ideas are born, DELO attaches great importance to a friendly working atmosphere with wide aisles, open offices and tea kitchens that invite to creative exchange. According to the motto “shared knowledge is double knowledge”, DELO also focuses on close networking between their own employees from research, development and product management, their customers, and external researchers. They invite to joint brainstorming meetings at regular intervals. In addition, a knowledge management event takes place four times a year.

“It is especially important to us to be close to our customers, and therefore to have detailed knowledge of our target industries”, explains Sabine Herold, Managing Partner. In order to know the trends and developments of the customers, employees from the Product Marketing regularly attend expert symposia of the specific lines of business. “There, tomorrow’s products are discussed”, adds Sabine Herold.

The Vienna University of Economy observed the innovation behavior of a total of 272 German SMEs over a period of several months. The 100 best of them, including DELO Industrial Adhesives, will bear the seal of quality for one year. “For us, creative ideas and fresh thinking are not only a means of sales increase. We are also passionate about this subject and want to make things happen. This award makes us proud and shows that it is worthwhile pulling together”, says Sabine Herold.

The 100 SMEs who bear the seal of quality 2011 gained total sales revenues of Euro 11.2 billion in the past year. 88 of the 100 awarded companies grew faster – by about 16 % on average – In the past 3 years than the industry average.
